Artist Profile: The Retinal Circus (Psychedelic)

Bored with all of these run o' the mill la-de-bloomin-da songs about girls and relationships?
Then you've come to the right place!.. Here we only deal with shapes, platonic relationships with time keeping devices, spaniards with fantastic taches', seahorses suspended in the vacuum of space, nebulae, Gregorian calendars and an analysis of the human race with the conclusion we are all APES.. ETC

I AM "One of Worcester's most prolific songwriters & multi instrumentalists,Craigus Barry" (so says the local media at large!) Or as I prefer - a psychedelic cabaret cake infused with pretentious self parody..

Taking my name from vision 6. Instructions for Use during a Psychedelic Session as described in the psychedelic experience by Timothy Leary I intend to bring joy, surrealism and confusion with each performance.. So far it has been a success..

Artist Profile: Knowledge (Hip Hop)

Source: MySpace

More than just a Maryland Hip Hop artist, Knowledge is becoming the voice of those victim to their government's lies and deceit. A revolutionary and intense underground rapper with the throne in his sights, trust that his presense is not to be taken lightly. While his lyrics are controversial, they are tightly woven together with meaningful ideas and circumstances based on FACT. The scenerios expressed through his lyrics have either been lived by, or seen through the eyes of, Knowledge himself -- a young but seasoned veteran, raised by the streets to follow a strict code of honor.

Knowledge has been reaching out to the world after his most recent release, Left 4 Dead, which has continued to grow increasingly popular over the past few months. This has kept him quite busy, along with the anticipation of his next release, God of War II, growing steadily by the day. With a constant mix of street Hip Hop, and vivid references to global struggles, he proves that world politics and politics within the Hip Hop culture are almost one in the same. As time passes, expect to hear his striking lyrics on an even more street influenced level, which often forces him to show his hate for authority and governing bodies, while showcasing his lyrical versatility on the mic.

Since Knowledge was an infant, he rebelled against authority, resulting in institutions and detention-style schools since first grade. Born in Maryland, he was forced to move from state to state many times while growing up, due to expulsion from school, or legal problems resulting from his parents' involvement in criminal activities. Whatever the reason, he would quickly adapt to every new area, and always showed signs of maturity by becoming a strong leader. Finally, however, the back and forth would come to a halt as he became a young adult. Upon the completion of various boot camps and detention centers in Central Pennsylvania, Knowledge found himself once again returning to Maryland for one last time. It was around this time when the hustle really started to set in, and his street credit and respect became impossible to ignore. There is no room for self glorification, but those who know him, and know what went on as the following ten years passed, will surely cosign the fact that he did the damn thing, and kept it real through thick & thin, no matter the situation or circumstance.

Fast forward to 2006, when involvement in an undercover sting operation set him back a few years, and put life on pause. or so it would seem. Instead of disappearing from the streets and choosing to do nothing with himself during the last three years of dealing with probation and drug court, he decided to pursue an old hobby and passion that had been dormant for the past 10 years of 'life in the fast lane', Hip Hop. Always a part of his life, in one form or another, Hip Hop would prove to be the savior of a soul which had become lost in a sea of hate and regret. By focusing his energy into his lyrics, Knowledge found a way to share his real life experiences with others in hopes that they may understand what he has been through. His lyrics often relate to his experience against the corrupted monster known as the "Justice" System.

Although you may not like every word you hear, rest assured, you will respect every syllable that pounds out of your speakers. With a confidence that is unmatched, and a delivery that cannot be confused with any other, Knowledge will grab the attention of ANY and EVERY listener from the second he starts, until long after his final song goes silent. Though he remains an underground emcee, and out of the bright light of the mainstream, he is surely getting his point across to the limitless underground fan-base of truth-seekers, and soldier supporters who both believe in what he represents, and support his cause until the end. That which he represents is TRUTH, live in the flesh. The cause which he stands for, is HIP HOP, and the lessons & messages that go with it. Knowledge is Hip Hop: more than just a name or a phrase, it's a movement! Either choose to move with it, or get Left 4 Dead.

Artist Profile: Truth Now (Hip Hop)

SOURCE: Truth Now

Peace Peace, this is Truth Now reporting live from behind enemy lines. I rhyme my words together on behalf of the message. Im not here to tell you how nice I am (although i may mention it) I have a lot to say that I think earth humans need to hear. As you probably already know; Hip Hop is a culture. I chose Hip Hop culture as my primary modality because I consider it to be the highest form of evolutionary expression currently manifested. The ability to rock a mic is swell, but what is encoded is what matters to me.

Relevance, Education, Humor, Morality, Equality, Liberty, Independence, Reflection, Infinity, these are a few of my favorite things. I'm 25, I work with my hands. I tremendously enjoy my craft. I put out two sonic projects in 2010 that are free. "Karma Alarm - The Mixtape" (truthnow.bandcamp.com) & "The Truth About Bullshit" EP (tabs.bandcamp.com) with the homie: BS. The single off #TABS, Cosmic Surfing ft. Srikala, won The Chimbre July Artist Submission Contest and I got to travel around Peru studying indigenous culture for most of August.(chimbre.com)

I want to take this opportunity to thank God/Goddess for every breath I've ever taken. Honestly the music speaks for itself so I will attempt brevity for the first time in my life.

I have another collab EP coming out in early 2011 with my man Dubble from Chi-Town called "The Prohibition". Also I will mention that there's another Mixtape in the works and my debut LP is somewhere on the horizon as well. I hope you all take an opportunity to smell what I'm cooking, and if you like the way it tastes, share it with your friends and family.

Artist Profile: The Madeleine Haze (Rock / Alternative / Metal)

SOURCE: MySpace

While Philadelphia-based Hard Rock/Metal band THE MADELEINE HAZE may have had humble, even tragic beginnings, they are quickly becoming one of the hottest unsigned acts in the country. Originally formed as an acoustic solo project by vocalist/guitarist Zachary Goebbel, his music was used as a coping mechanism after drug addiction claimed the lives of both his parents. Inspired by French novelist Marcel Proust’s story of how the taste of a madeleine cake brought forth an overwhelming rush of memories and emotions; Zachary set out to use music as a way of dealing with his own pain, while also connecting with the emotions of the listener. The result was an acoustic EP entitled “In Search Of Lost Time”, which was not intended to be heard by anyone but close friends. However, local and regional radio stations began playing the song “The Albatross”, so drummer Ben Carter and bassist Brian Lamb were brought in for live shows.

It was at the band’s third gig, in a small North Carolina town, where everything changed. Between songs, Zachary made what he believed was an innocent comment about the two major political parties and current national policies. Local police shut the concert down immediately, and ordered the band to leave town. Word spread throughout the free speech community, and the band became spokespeople for the Constitution, appearing on several national radio talk shows. This exposure led to gigs all over the country with bands such as FIXER, BROKEN TEETH, AMERICAN DOG and BULLETBOYS.

Meanwhile, the band began writing new material; resulting in a hybrid of technical Progressive Metal with radio-friendly Alternative Rock hooks. This new sound has been compared to everyone from Shinedown to Kings X, and is attracting the attention of record labels, as well as a legion of new fans.

In September 2009, the band headlined their first US tour, which acted a series of free speech rallies and fundraisers for local charities. The highlight was a sold-out performance in New York City on September 11th, which raised money for the families of 9/11 firefighters.

Now hard at work on their debut album entitled “A More Perfect Union”, the band has teamed with porn star ANGELINA ARMANI, one of the hottest stars in XXX, for a cover shot that is both sexy and meaningful. Armani portrays humanity in it’s natural free state, but censored and stained by a corrupt political system. The music inside will echo this contrast, with a mix of emotional, anthemic Rock and the more aggressive Metal style that has arisen over the past year. Produced by Billy Seals (Sanctity), the album will be released this summer after a label deal is secured.

Fiercely political, while refusing to align with any major political party; undoubtedly mainstream, while resisting the confines of a cookie-cutter music industry; The Madeleine Haze are the new paradigm for independent, modern Hard Rock.

Artist Profile: The Empire Shall Fall (Metal / Hardcore)

SOURCE: Facebook

Providence, RI’s freshly-minted metallic hardcore powerhouse The Empire Shall fall first came into being in the summer of 2008, after longtime friends Nick Sollecito and Jesse Leach got together and decided it was high time for them to form a band. Though Leach had split with Killswitch Engage several years previously and Sollecito’s roots lay mainly in the jazz and hip hop scenes, they were dead-set on bringing a balls-out modern metal band to life. After finding a temporary drummer and recruiting Jake Davenport on guitar, and practicing endlessly to truly nail down the TESF sound, the quartet began playing gigs around New England. The addition of Marc de Lisle on second guitar and Jeff Pitts on drums solidified the band’s lineup, and led to the recording of the band’s debut full-length, Awaken. Financing the entire recording as well as all merchandise, pressing, and touring costs themselves and set to release the album on Sollecito’s own Angle Side Side Records in November 2009, The Empire Shall Fall are the perfect example of a determined, ambitious, totally DIY band on a mission.

The Empire Shall Fall’s eclectic sound is rooted in metal/hardcore, citing luminaries At the Gates, Meshuggah, and Edge of Sanity as major inspirations. However, ‘Awaken’ also draws heavily upon the band members’ combined interests in jazz, punk, and experimental music to create a compelling blend of melody, brutality, and sheer determination that is impossible to pin down and sure to intrigue fans of Refused, At the Drive In, Deftones, and BTBAM.

Fueled by political outrage and a never-ending search for truth, the band’s message is as potent as their music, and serves as a call to arms for a lost generation. Advocating positivity, unity, and empowerment and taking cues from legendary rabble-rousers and free thinkers like Jello Biafra, Benjamin Franklin, Cynthia McKinney, and Ron Paul, THE EMPIRE SHALL FALL’s passion for and dedication to their political causes forms the backbone of the band and sets them a head and shoulders apart from their peers.

SOURCE: ReverbNation

There's a 'truth music' movement spreading across the country, and Voice is on the front lines. While an expert at getting any point across through his lyrics, Voice prefers to rap about some of the most controversial topics ever discussed.

His music is influenced by many different Hip Hop and rock artists and has been compared to Zack de la Rocha, Chuck D, Aesop Rock, Paris and even Jim Morrison.

Most of his tracks are produced by fellow L Burner crew member, Nightbreed. Nightbreed mixes a fresh combination of rock, jazz and classical music with Hip Hop to produce a sound as original and unique as Voice himself.

Artist Profile: The Bombs Of Enduring Freedom (Metal / Industrial)

SOURCE: MySpace

Deep in the suburbs of the UK's drug-death capital, "THE BOMBS OF ENDURING FREEDOM" were born in the council-flat of mass destruction, fathered by prolific underground musician J.F. (Blacksmoke, Ewigkeit, The Meads of Asphodel etc etc...).

The explosive devices produced by this attack unit are distorted Break Beats meets Death Metal guitars in a world of Trip-Hop, Drum'n'Bass and World Music reporting on the news and culture of today's 24 hour news worldview.

Yes - really. Or put another way;

Speaker-destroying beats and sub-bass that could defeat the Atlantic Fleet, soldered to the rhythms of the (sub) urban sprawl, topped with death rock riffs whilst some random sampled unfortunate declares 'The End Is Nigh' - and all with a D.I.Y punk ethic.

Get it? Good.

In a time where virtually all music and art in the media are as revolutionary as a Che Guevara t-shirt, "The Bombs.." are determined to escape the confines of pre-determined sub-genres and paint-by-numbers "band" image in order to write some music that expresses their true sense of being "pissed off" at the modern world in the age of "global terror".

It is best to think of THE BOMBS OF ENDURING FREEDOM as Jeremy Paxman and the BBC News 24 team being eaten for dinner by The Prodigy, Ministry and Meat Beat Manifesto.

You should pay attention to us. We aren't going to sing you any love songs. There's a box to think outside of. There's a cross to look at, there's books riddled with esoterica to understand. There's conditioning to understand. There's an agenda taking place right before our very eyes and they're lying to us every day. The lodges will crumble, the strings that pull will snap, their false flags won't fly if we remember resistance isn't futile. Look for the real agenda of the New World Order.

A positive mental attitude isn't ignoring problems. It's dealing with them? We're not pretending to be anything we're not and we're not just churning out the same anarchic messages associated with our "genre". We have our own ideas and we take pride in thinking for ourselves. We are NOT left-wing, we are NOT right wing: we are NOT anti-semetic (we've had that one thrown our way). We do not self-righteously offer you any solutions to what we scream about but we do have a belief in how things can and should be. We do believe that the megalomaniac power freaks that really run things are very wrong and we won't be quiet about it...

Artist Profile: Remo Conscious (Hip Hop)

SOURCE: Wikipedia

Ryan Remo Fioroni (born 19 July), better known by his stage name Remo Conscious, is an American Hip-hop singer, recording artist, producer and activist based out of Oakland, California. Besides recording, he is a supporter of Animal Defenders International, campaigning against animal cruelty in circuses and narrating the web film Stop Circus Suffering.

Born in Las Vegas, Remo's upbringing was frequented with alcoholism, drug abuse and violence. He began writing and recording hip hop music after his twenty two-year old sister died from a cocaine overdose. His first tracks were produced with nothing more than two tape decks, using his own vocalisations as backing tracks.

In 2003, Remo created the record label Soul Cipher Records, and began recording politically-driven, anti-Bush songs. Since then his music has centred around general police corruption, democracy, economics, US Imperialism, and the September 11 attacks, as well as specific events such as the shooting of Oscar Grant. Dylan Avery, the director the documentary Loose Change, contacted him after hearing the song "Lies" played live and requested that it be used in the trailer for the second edition. After watching the film, Remo was then asked by Avery to produce a theme song for the film . The track "Loose Change" was featured in the credit sequence for the final cut of the film. The most recent album, Infiltration, includes contributions from several producers, including Donnan Linkz and Seth Spins.
